Green prototyping with NonOilen
in company Fremach

Company Fremach, which is a global supplier of complex plastic components in automotive, has tested brand new revolutionary filament NonOilen® and became the first company where “green prototyping” in 3D printing began to be applied.

With the green prototyping the classy materials such as PLA, PETG or CPE can be replaced by fully biodegradable and recyclable NonOilen®. This filament perfectly fits the circular economy by being recyclable many times with little loss of the properties. Thanks to this you can cut the source of input material and reuse the material itself. Once the lifetime is over, here the circle is closing and the 100% biodegradable in industrial compost material is returned for the nature.

This material has great properties, such as high strength, hardness or toughness. The printed objects can be used for food-contact applications. Comparing to PLA, Nonoilen® is tougher and withstands higher temperatures (up to 120 °C). Printing is as easy as standard PLA.

More detailed information about NonOilen® can be found at our websiteMore about printing with NonOilen® and its application into a production process in Fremach can be found in our interview:

What do you print from NonOilen® and why did you choose this material for your purposes?

Our first and certainly not last objects printed from NonOilen® were control gauge and gears. We appreciate using this special filament for printing gears because of both, the good resistance of the material to higher temperatures and the possibility of complete recycling, which is very welcome in the case of printing big number of gears.

What do you use the printed objects for?

The gauges are made to check the positions of symbols on decorated parts. Firstly, the gauges are printed, the correctness is checked and after that the stencils are made from metal. The printed objects are then unused, so we found the recycling process to be incredibly beneficial.

Second object printed from NonOilen® is the gears which are part of a rotating system for painting cylindrical parts. These must be painted equally around the entire circuit. These gears are fixed in a part where the non-recyclable varnish cannot get. We are therefore very pleased with the advantage of recycling, especially with the material resistant to the higher temperatures to which the gears in the paint shop furnace are exposed.

The gears printed from NonOilen® are not deformed and their service life is extended. “I can confirm excellent properties of NonOilen®, “ adds Mr. Jan Mozny, a process engineer who stands behind the project of rotary system.

Did you know that NonOilen® is the first fully biodegradable material on the market? How will you handle printed objects when they fulfill their purpose?

Thanks to the cooperation with Fillamentum, we have maximum information about the materials used. With the launch of NonOilen® and information about fully recyclable material, we were very pleased to try it and start using it in our production. For the time being, in cooperation with company Fillamentum, we will regularly collect and recycle unused parts made of NonOilen® material. Fillamentum ecological thinking motivates us to take our own steps closer to nature.

How was the printing? Is there anything the user should be aware of?

3D printing with NonOilen® went well. The fact that the material does not get wet and the usual “plastic hair” is not formed on the printed objects which is very appreciated when printing stencils, is convenient for.

“The benefits of 3D printing are obvious and are increasingly important to our business. Furthermore, Fillamentum ecological thinking motivates us to take our own steps closer to nature.” says Miroslava Pribylova, a process engineer in Fremach.

In general, the idea of sustainability and recyclability becomes number one topic in companies across all inudstry sectors. Sustainability is one of the main principles of Fillamentum, which is ready to spread this respectful approach to the environment among other companies in order to ensure a quality life for future generations.
